With the new Apple iPhone 3G coming out does this make my iPhone obsolete now? Software updates?

Is Apple planning on updating the existing customers that have the iPhone to the new 3G's capabilities or are we so to say screwed?

  1. I dont think apple does have any plans on updating existing customers! well i've heard with the new I-phone you could browse ever faster and its slimmer with some added features @ 199 bucks instead of 399! there maybe a software update available for the existing I-phone users!
  2. No, your original iPhone is not obsolete. In early July Software Update 2.0 will be available to the original iPhone. The update will include: The Apps Store, Enterprise support with remote wipe, iWork support, MS Office support, MobileMe support (the new .mac), mass email move and delete, contacts search, more languages, and a scientific calculator when in landscape orientation. Here's what you won't have: You won't get data service at twice the speed, but at a cost of twice the battery drain and an extra $10 per month and you'll have to pay another $5 a month to retain 200 SMS messages. You won't have an Assisted-GPS built-in showing your exact position and live tracking, but with the original at least you have a general location finder. You won't have improved audio. You won't have geo tagging on your photos. You won't have the improved camera software with improved images. You won't have a missing dock. Since there are several different docks available now, I guess it's a personal choice which one, but the docks probably range between $30 to $50. Lastly, in order to allow better reception for GPS, the metal back was changed to plastic. I prefer the metal. In order to get 3G and/or GPS on the original iPhone, it would have to be taken apart and have a 3G radio chip and GPS added. Too much trouble and too expensive. Personally I am still satisfied with my original iPhone. I can wait for the next version to come out. I also think the original iPhone will retain their value for awhile because T-Mobile has not launched a 3G network yet and the iPhone 3G won't operate on the the same frequencies. AT&T uses 1900 and 2100 MHz, while T-Mobile uses 1700 and 2100 MHz. So unless those T-Mobile subscribers want an iPhone with GPS, they won't be able to get 3G service. It's also yet to be determined if the iPhone 3G can be unlocked or if it can, how long it will take. By the way, the iPhone 3G is a bit thicker in the center with tapered edges and just a tad lighter due to the plastic back.
  3. well the new 3g iphone is going to be brilliant, but for someone like you whose already got a ipohne and doesnt want to spend money on a new one then why not go to http://www.freewebs.com/apple4free and get it for free. No contract is required and it is unlocked to any network. Both the old and the new 3g iphone is avaliable.
  4. I agree with the 2nd person who answered. The only real reason to upgrade to the 3g iphone is because of the 3g speeds. But then again, I get my quicker wi-fi speeds because I have a wireless router in my house. Gps--not a problem, the old iphone still has triangular positioning and celular towers to give u directions. The new headphone jack?----not a problem, u should just use the headphones that came with the iphone. So that leaves one thing left----The iphone 3G's color, which isn't a big deal. What's wrong with silver? Plus you'll get all the satisfying features from the new 2.0 software update which will be free from apple in about 3 weeks.
